Building a Successful Company

Formulation and Implementation of Core Values, Mission
and Vision

Interpretation of the concept of strategic intent has currently undergone a major shift. In the recent past, the concept was commonly interpreted and used as referring to the "basic structure or a starting model of strategic vision" (i. e. basic outline of strategic vision). At present, it is used mainly to refer to the key strategic document of a company expressing its core values, its mission and its strategic vision. This basic structure of strategic intent is sometimes extended also to include a concise description of the external environment of the company (its current strategic situation) and its key strategic goals, as well as basic strategies for their attainment. Strategic intent is the core identity, "the soul" or "the I dimension" of every company. It defines (1) where we want to get and how we must be in order to get there, (2) why we want to get there, how we are able to achieve strategic differentiation from our competitors and how we create the unique added value for our customers, and (3) which core values will guide us "on this road". At the same time, this is the fundamental decision-making and problem-solving algorithm for all managers and employees of the company.

Theoretical foundations and specific strategies, methods and techniques for the formulation and implementation of strategic intent may - besides the company level - be successfully applied also at the level of its functional areas and organizational units. Strategic intents of individual functional areas and organizational units of the company will thus support the strategic intent of the company as a whole and will create a strong synergetic effect.

Formulation and implementation of core values, mission and vision can be carried out in many different ways. For our clients we prepared an intensive problem-solving workshop Formulation and Implementation of Core Values, Mission and Vision.

Goals:
1. Creating a common knowledge and skill base and laying foundations for formulation and implementation of strategic intent of your company: its core values, mission and vision.
2. Developing an introductory proposition of your company core values, mission and vision.
3. Preparing a project for involving all employees of your company in interactive and participative formulation and implementation of its core values, mission and vision.

Process
After completing training modules Strategic Vision and Company Mission (core purpose, reason for being) (see training program Building a Successful Company: Business Strategy), workshop participants - working in small teams and then as a large group - formulate an introductory proposition of core values, mission and vision of your company. In last phase of the workshop, its participants will prepare a project for involving all employees of your company in interactive and participative formulation and implementation of its core values, mission and vision.
